The IAFF's 2011 Firefighters in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness campaign was a smashing success, and the IAFF is sponsoring a friendly competition for users to vote for their favorite design.

L3666(Frederick) is currently #1 in the nation!  A friendly challenge between L1664(Montgomery) and L3666(Frederick) will see the losing Local's president dancing at next year's Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk in Washington, DC, while wearing the winning Local's T-Shirt and a pink Tutu.

Throughout the month of October, L3666 personnel have been wearing pink T-shirts to benefit the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund, http://www.colonialjewelers.com/news-and-events/the-hurwitz-breast-cancer-fund

What began in 2010 as a 3 day event of pink T-shirts has grown do a month long Frederick County DFRS sponsored event in 2011, with an even greater participation level among personnel.

Thank you to everyone who has participated to date, and a special thanks to Technician Frank Malta(2-B) for his tireless work with T-shirt production and sales.

On October 15th at Frederick County’s Public Safety Training Facility, members of Local 3666, along with members of Frederick County and City Law Enforcement, met with Wills for Heroes.  www.willsforheroes.org

From Wills for Heroes website - “Wills for Heroes programs provide essential legal documents free of charge to our nation’s first responders, including wills, living wills, and powers of attorney. By helping first responders plan now, they ensure their family's legal affairs are in order before a tragedy hits.”

With almost 30 personnel and their families taking advantage of the event, L3666 hopes to make this an annual event so that 2012 can see even more participation and benefit to members.

On June 30th 2011, FF Claude Droneburg, better known to all of us as Skeeter, retired after 42 years of service with the Frederick County Division of Fire Rescue Services (DFRS). Skeeter started his career with the Frederick City FD in 1979 at FS03 in the Lafyette Square section of Frederick City. In 1989, the Frederick City FD was disbanded and incorporated into the Frederick County DFRS where Skeeter continued his service to the County. Skeeter is best known for his subtle one-liners and his affectionate nicknames for everyone on the floor, Joey and Ginger. Skeeter has worked at numerous assignments over the years to include FS03 Lafyette Square, FS01 Westside, FS25 Green Valley, FS31 Westview, FS23 Urbana, FS28 Point of Rocks and FS07 Middletown. "Joey" we wish you the best in your retirement and look forward to seeing you around town on one of your citywide strolls.
